Well Child Check Appointment

What to Expect: Your Shine provider will examine your child’s overall health in regards to 

• Growth & development
• Nutrition & diet 
• Vision & hearing 
• Individualized vaccine schedule

This is a great way for new patients to establish care or established patients to continue regular care. 

Recommended WCC Schedule:

0 to 5 days, 1 month, 2 month, 4 month, 6 month, 9 month, 12 month, 15 month,18 month,  2 years, &, annually, after 3 years of age

Insurance Coverage: This type of visit is usually covered by most insurance carriers, under preventative care. Coverage of vaccines or other testing such as vision and hearing or behavioral, may vary per each insurance plan. Please check with your health insurance carrier prior to your visit to learn more about your specific coverage. (Pro tip: ask them if your wellness exams need to be a calendar year apart or simply after your child’s birthday. Knowing this will prevent any unforeseen cost.) 

Integrative Appointment

Who qualifies? Any new or established patient who has a chronic condition or symptoms lasting longer than 4 weeks. During the visit, your Shine provider will discuss and develop a treatment plan. Common conditions seen: ADD/ADHD, behavioral concerns, PANS/PANDAS, depression/mood disorders, Lyme disease, Down Syndrome, Thyroid concerns, food or environmental allergies, asthma, chronic respiratory conditions, Eczema/skin concerns, Gastrointestinal concerns, etc. 

Insurance Coverage: A new integrative appointment will require a $100 deposit.  This type of visit will usually incur a copay or be applied to your deductible by most insurance carriers. Some of the additional testing might not be covered by insurance. Please check with your health insurance carrier prior to your visit to learn more about your specific coverage.

Lab Review

What to expect: It’s pretty self explanatory! Did your child recently get labs drawn or speciality testing done? If so, you’ll need an appointment to review the lab results with your Shine provider. The results will be posted on your Healthfusion Patient portal if everything comes back normal. If you receive abnormal results or have questions regarding your results, then you will need a Lab Review Appointment. Lab Reviews are reserved for established Shine patients only, & your child must be present at the time of your appointment.

Weight Check

What to expect: Your Shine provider will recommend a weight check if there are any concerns regarding your child’s weight. This will be a nurse only visit, and your provider will review this information after your appointment. If there is a continued concern, your Shine provider will direct the plan of care.

Lactation Appointment

MiKaylan Cushing is a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC)  here at Shine Pediatrics! She has been working with Shine since 2021. MiKaylan graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Child Development and Family Studies. She is currently working towards obtaining her IBCLC certification. Additionally, she is a Certified Newborn Massage Instructor (CNMI)

Postnatal Lactation Visits:

• Go over mom’s medical history to learn more about both patient’s concerns or issues
• Assess the feed to check for proper latching 
• Perform a weighted feed to determine how much the baby is getting at the breast 
• Oral assessment for tongue and lip ties
• Address any lactation concerns or issues with a holistic approach 
• Determine if a follow up is necessary or if other professionals may be needed

Virtual Lactation Visits

• Address milk supply concerns
• Nipple/breast pain or other concerns 
• Returning to work 
• Other lactation concerns 

Weight Check Visits

• Check baby’s weight
• Perform Tyto Care Assessment
• Address feeding and weight gain concerns
• Determine if baby needs supplementation

INSURANCE: 

We do accept most major insurances and the baby must be at least in the process of being added to the insurance. You have a 30-day window from birth to do so. This means you can schedule an appointment sooner without waiting for insurance formalities. SHINE lactation only bills appointments through the baby. To confirm how much the insurance will cover you will need to contact your insurance.

Vaccine Consultation

What to expect: You will meet with your Shine provider to discuss vaccines and create an individualized vaccine schedule for your child. These consultations can be made by either new or established patients. If you’re new to Shine, we’ll need you to send your previous vaccine records through Klara prior to your visit.

Simple Sick Appointment

What to expect: Your Shine provider will assess and treat common illnesses and symptoms such as, fever, runny nose, cough, sore throat, ear pain, Pink Eye, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, lice, etc. If your child’s symptoms have been present for longer than 4 weeks, please make an Integrative appointment. Sick visits are for both new and established Shine patients. 

Insurance Coverage: This type of visit will usually incur a copay or be applied to your deductible by most insurance carriers. However some of the additional testing may not be covered. Please check with your health insurance carrier prior to your visit to learn more about your specific coverage.

Follow-up Appointment

What to expect: There are a few reasons why your child might need a follow up appointment: your child was seen at the ER or Urgent Care which requires a follow up with your Pediatrician, your Shine provider requests a follow up to check in on your child’s progress, or your child has been seen for an issue but it hasn’t resolved or remedied. 

*IMPORTANT*: If your child is needing an ER or Urgent Care follow-up appointment, we MUST have the records from your visit prior to scheduling

Medical Ear Piercing

What to expect: Your child is getting their ears pierced! And, we understand how hard it can be to find a clean, hypoallergenic service. This is why Shine offers Medical Grade ear piercing. Upon arrival, we’ll place numbing cream on your child’s ears before we insert the medical grade plastic or titanium earrings. Calming essential oils and homeopathics for pain and anxiety will be available during the service. Our Shine Medical Assistants are fully trained and will make this a joyful experience for you and your kids! We offer this service to Shine patients 6 months and older. 

Insurance Coverage: This appointment is not billed to insurance and will be an out-of-pocket fee. Please contact our office for pricing info.

Lab Draw Appointment

What to expect: If your Shine provider orders a lab to be drawn, then you’ll need a Lab Draw visit. One of our Shine Medical Assistants will perform the lab draw. Common lab draws at Shine include fasting/non-fasting venipunctures, capillary draws, and buccal check swabs for genetic testing.

Telehealth Appointment

What to expect: Our telehealth visits are conducted virtually via our secure, patient communication platform, Klara. Visit types included are vaccine consultations, lab reviews, integrative follow ups, sick visits, and most follow ups. Please be aware that if your provider feels that an in-person exam or testing is required for optimal levels of care, then you will be asked to make a visit to one of our offices at your earliest convenience.

IMPORTANT: Your child must be present in order for us to bill your insurance. If a child is not present, insurance will deny the claim.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)

How does HBOT work? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment, at a level higher than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). Increased pressure allows for oxygen to come off the red blood cell and saturate the blood, which yields a broad variety of positive effects like increased energy, repairing the effects of injury on our bodies, and giving our cells the basic nutrition of oxygen. This noninvasive, safe therapy is the most trusted way to increase oxygen levels to all organs of the body. The typical treatment lasts for 60-80 minutes, during which the patient lies down and breathes normally.

Tytohome Appointment

What to expect: We have partnered with TytoCare to offer a device which will fully integrate with our telemedicine program. This may benefit our families who live farther away! We wanted to let you know that Shine Pediatrics can now conduct remote medical exams, so you don’t have to leave your home or worry while traveling. This revolutionary way to provide medical care is convenient and safe. 

Using the TytoCare device Shine Pediatrics Providers are able to remotely:

•  Listen to lung and heart sounds from the comfort of your home
• View the ear canal and eardrum to identify ear infections or causes of ear pain
• Monitor heart sounds
• Look at the throat and tonsils
• Measure heart rate and body temperature
• See images of the skin to assess insect bites, eczema, and other rashes
• Listen for abnormal belly sounds
• Complete Well Child Exams
• Conduct Lab reviews & Integrative Medical Visits 

Please be aware that if your provider feels that an in-person exam or testing is required for optimal levels of care, then you will be asked to make a visit to one of our offices at your earliest convenience. For out of state patients needing labs, we will give you a lab order that you can take to a lab near your home.

Sports Physical

What to expect: Your child’s sports physical can be done during their annual well child check. If you. If your child has had a well check within the last year, but needs additional testing such as an EKG, concussion testing, vision and hearing, or other screening tests, then you will be scheduled on our Nurse’s schedule to complete these. New patients can establish care through a sports physical. 

Insurance Coverage: This type of visit is usually covered by most insurance carriers if done at the annual wellness exam. However, some of the additional testing may not be covered. Please check with your health insurance carrier prior to your visit to learn more about your specific coverage. Please note for older male patients a testicular exam is recommended, especially if lifting weights. If your child does not feel comfortable with a female provider please let us know so we can schedule accordingly.
